Leadership to Embed AMS into Practice (LEAP)

 

Most clinical decisions involving antibiotics are made by frontline healthcare professionals, yet many have limited access to antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) or leadership training. LEAP is a 12 month programme that builds confident clinical leaders who can drive AMS in everyday practice. Participants from across the workforce develop leadership capability, apply behaviour‑change and quality‑improvement approaches, and deliver meaningful AMS improvement in their own clinical areas.

We are currently focusing on healthcare professionals working in the UK, with plans to open future cohorts globally.

LEAP Leader

For healthcare professionals who make daily clinical decisions involving antibiotics and want to lead AMS improvement in their own setting. LEAP builds confidence, leadership capability and practical AMS skills through behaviour change and quality improvement approaches.

We welcome applications from Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, you do not need to be a prescriber to take part.

LEAP Mentor

For AMS and infection specialists who want to inspire and empower colleagues to lead meaningful AMS change. As a LEAP mentor, you’ll strengthen your mentorship and coaching skills, support participants to build confidence and influence, and help them apply practical behaviour change and quality improvement approaches that improve antimicrobial use where it matters most.

LEAP Programme Progress to Date

  • LEAP AMS Cohort Programme complete. Participants are finalising their projects and evaluation.
  • LEAP AFS Cohort In progress. Scheduled to complete February 2027.
  • LEAP AMS Cohort 2 Enrolled and starting September 2026.
  • LEAP UTI and LEAP Vaccine Cohorts Two new cohorts in development. Further details to follow.
