Empowering healthcare professionals to protect patients and preserve the power of antibiotics
Antibiotics are becoming less effective, and infections are becoming harder to treat. Improving how antibiotics are prescribed, supplied and administered is essential to safe, effective patient care.
LEAP is a 12 month leadership development programme from BSAC for frontline healthcare professionals who want to improve how antibiotics are used in everyday practice.
LEAP UTI specialist cohort
This cohort is for frontline healthcare professionals in primary or secondary care who assess, review or manage people with urinary tract infections as part of their routine clinical practice. It is designed for practitioners who want to lead a quality improvement project to optimise UTI management in their own area of care. This pathway is not intended for AMS pharmacists or infection specialists. If you are one of these professionals, the mentor pathway is the most suitable route for this cohort.
Who can apply as LEAP Leader participants
LEAP is open to nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, allied health professionals, doctors in training and others involved in prescribing, supplying or administering antibiotics in the UK. You do not need to be an infection specialist or hold a formal leadership role. We are looking for people who want to strengthen antibiotic decision-making and improve patient care in their own setting.
Who can apply as LEAP Mentors
We are looking for infection specialists and AMS experts in the UK who can support participants, provide leadership guidance and help shape practical quality improvement projects focused on optimising antibiotic use.
What the programme involves
The programme combines mentorship, teaching from a multidisciplinary faculty and a UK wide peer network. Participants lead a real quality improvement project on optimising antibiotic use in their workplace and develop practical skills in leading change, communication, collaborative working and addressing health inequalities through inclusive practice.
